All good things must come to an end, and unfortunately that’s the case for the 2015 heated season. But do not despair!!!!! Every cloud has a silver lining, and some of our hardy swimmers will be taking up unheated water swimming every Thursday evening in November and every weekend through to New Year’s Day!
There was a few sessions/classes that were new 2015, for the first time in the Hathersage Pool history the heated season was extended through till 31st October one full extra month, Aquafit with Rob every Monday evening 6:30 – 7:30pm, Monday and Wednesday Adults only evening sessions, and Season Ticket Sessions at weekend during low season.
What a fantastic heated season we have had, so why don`t we look back at what has happen over another successful season.
The season kicked off on 21st March with our traditional opening day party, hundreds of local residents flocked to the pool to purchase that all important season ticket and enjoy their first swim of the 2015 season. Shortly after we opened, we participated in the Marie Curie Swimathon, and after a visit from 1980 Olympic Gold Medallist Duncan Goodhew over 100 people registered to take part in 3 sessions. Participants swam 355.5 km combined raising over £10000 for charity.
On Friday 17th April we had the first of our 7 monthly night swim to live music. What amazing events they have all been. Across the season over 800 people have attended enjoying refreshments and a wide range of music from Acoustic sets, indie rock, folk, jazz and brass. You name it we have had them up on the band stand playing to a sold out event.
So as the halfway point in our season approached on Saturday 20th June we arrived at our 3rd Annual 24 hour Summer Solstice opening. Opening at 3.30am Saturday morning and staying open till 3.30am Sunday morning. Over 500 people swam during the 24 hour period with some completing sponsored miles, some completing our 24 miles in 24 hour challenge and rest swimming as many lengths as they could to help us reach our goal of swimming from Hathersage to Stonehenge. Great fun was had by all through the day enjoying a lovely sunset coming over the hill to live music in the evening. We raised over £2000 for the King Georges Field Charity which helps with the upkeep of the pool.
As the end of the season drew nearer and for the 3rd year running in September we held a MacMillan Coffee morning raising £505.52 for Cancer support. On a warm October evening, Village Green Events put on 2 pop up cinema screenings of the Disney classic “The Little Mermaid” and James Cameron’s epic “Titanic”. This year we were lucky enough to have the heated season extended by an extra month through October and we ended on such a high with the sunshine and over 400 people attending the end of season party and Halloween Scarefest.
We would like to thank all our customers and volunteers for supporting the pool and if you’re not braving the unheated sessions we look forward to welcoming you back for the 2016 heated season on Saturday 19th March.
