On 21st June we had our 2nd 24 Hour swim to celebrate the summer solstice. So at 3:30 am on Saturday we opened, over 50 blurry eyed souls arrived nice and early to enjoy a very earlier morning swim and see the sunrise.
We had a number of challenges going on throughout the day, there was 4 teams competing in our 24 miles in 24 hours challenge and we also challenge everyone to help us swim the 207 miles (11178 lengths) to Stonehenge. We asked everyone who came in for a swim to write down how many lengths they had swam to help us reach are target. By 1am Sunday we had reached are target and finished with a total of 220 miles. All sorts of people helped us complete the swim from our “early morning crew” through to some of our youngest swimmers who complete their first ever length.
Big thanks and congratulation to all the swimmers that competed in our 24miles in 24 hours swim. One team, Treeton swimmers decided to see how many miles they could swim between them, they managed to swim 35 miles raising money Neurocare, there was a team raising money for Derbyshire Mind and one of there swimmers managers to swim 14 miles all by herself. But a massive congratulation must go to Carolyn Gaunt who on a weeks notice manage to swim the full 24 mile.
In the evening we had our monthly night swim to music , which was full to capacity and everyone enjoyed music from Peak Folk and a local singer Abbie. The most popular time to swim was at midnight were we had over 100 people turn up and swim sponsored miles for various charity.
Special events like this wouldn’t be the same without the volunteers making cakes and soup. and selling refreshments throughout the day to help sustain the swimmers and the staff. So we would like to say a very big thank you to everyone who volunteered their time to help out during the day.
The grand total raised for the day was £5500 which goes to The King Georges Field Charitable Trust which helps with the up keep of the pool.
Hathersage pool would just like to say one final thank you to everyone who came down and supported our event and help make it such a success.
