One of our local swimmers Ghazala Ahmed-Mear was personally invited by Robert Swan OBE to walk the last 60 miles of the 2041 Climate Force South Pole Energy Challenge – a 600 mile sled haul from the edge of Antarctica to the South Pole. Using wind, solar and biofuels, in January 2018, it became the first polar expedition to use only renewable energy. The point being if we can do this in the coldest, driest and most inhospitable place on earth, surely we can follow in our own lives to help reduce carbon emissions.
With an invitation of a lifetime, learn how Ghazala’s 2 year campaign of raising awareness and funding came to be realised, with determination, perseverance and passion, using a strategy that can work for all to ‘make things happen’. And how Hathersage Swimming Pool is playing it’s part.
Join her at 7.30pm for an hour’s presentation with some fabulous images from coldest place on earth, with ice-cream supplied by Hope Valley Ice Cream Company.
