All fundraising carried out at Hathersage Swimming Pool or in aid of is for The King George’s Field charity. This charity was set up in 1936 as part of a national scheme to commemorate the death of King George V.
Hathersage Swimming Pool was open in 1936, as part of the King George V Memorial Field. This includes the tennis courts, band stand, playing fields, sand pit and a 100ft by 50ft paddling pool which is now sadly gone. This was all made possible as a result of a generous donation from local resident Mr George Herbert Lawrence, a local manufacturer of razor blades in Sheffield.
The pool is managed by Hathersage Parish Council on behalf of The King George`s Field Charitable Trust.
The charity raises funds to preserve and improve the properties it owns, particularly the swimming pool, funding large projects and modernisation of the facilities.
Regular Fundraising events are held at the pool, e.g.: – New Year’s Day opening; Opening day events; Monthly Night Swims to Live Music; 24 hour Solstice swims; Halloween Swim. There is also fundraising done on behalf of other charity’s e.g.: MacMillan Cancer Support (Coffee Morning), Marie Curie Cancer Care (annual Swimathon), Sports Relief (annual Swimathon) and organise Cancer support swims with the help of Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity.
