We have put together answers to frequently asked questions:

How deep is the pool? The shallow end is 1m and the deep end is 2m.

Do I need a season ticket to use the pool? No, we have a mix of sessions all of which are available to all with the exception of season ticket only sessions.

What is the length of the pool? The pool is 30m

Are dogs allowed in the area? Dogs are not allowed within the pool or pool area. Service dogs are permitted within the pool area but not the pool.

Do you have showers? Yes, We have 7 showers all of which run warm water. 4 of them are indoors and 3 of them are outdoors.

Do you have lockers? Yes, we have lockers on site which take a £1 coin which is returned after use.

Do you have changing rooms? Yes we have 2 unisex changing blocks with private cubicles. There is a larger family/disabled cubicle in each block. Please do not leave your belongings in the changing cubicle, use the lockers or benches provided to store your belongings whilst you swim.

Do you have toilets? Yes we have male and female toilets and also a accessible toilet.

Do you have baby changing units and nappy bins? Yes we have baby changing units and nappy bins in the family cubicles and accessible toilet.

Do you have parking? Yes we have a small free of charge car park on site, there is also a Pay and Display car park opposite to use if ours is full.

Is the pool heated? Yes the water is heated, we endeavour to maintain a consistent water temperature, this is changeable due to the Great British weather conditions and other issues out of our control. During periods of cooler outdoor air temperatures (particularly during the winter season) the pool cools down faster than we can heat it. You can check the current water temperature on our homepage.

Can I book online? During the Summer (April to September) we take bookings for Lane Swims, Public Swims, Aqua Fit, Masters and Swim Lessons. Entry for these sessions on the door will be subject to capacity not being reached via online sales. Booking for these sessions is online only here: http://www.ticketsource.co.uk/hathersage-outdoor-pool All other sessions such as Adults Only and Aqua Fun sessions are non bookable simply pay on entry.

Do you offer parties/private hire? The pool is available to hire every Saturday and Sunday through the Summer (April – September) from 5 – 6pm and Winter (October – March) 2 – 3pm. The cost of hire is £300, with a £50 deposit to confirm your booking with the remaining balance due on the day of booking. The hire charge allows for 1 hours hire and can be used for either a child’s party, lane swimming etc. To check availability and book your private hire, please follow the link: Hathersage Outdoor Pool event tickets from TicketSource.

Do you sell swimwear? No, we do not stock swimwear. However, we do sell goggles, swim caps, arms bands, ear plugs, nose clips, towels and swim nappies. Alpkit in the village centre stocks a small selection of swimwear and would be the best place to look locally.

Do you have a toddler/baby pool? No we do not, our pool is suitable for young children accompanied by an adult in the shallow end which is 1m.

Are you open in the rain and what happens if there is a storm? Yes we are open in all weather conditions with the exception of thunder and lightning storms. In the event of thunder storms we must clear the pool immediately. An ‘all clear’ to re-enter the water will be given once there has been a 20 minute lapse between thunder rolls. Unfortunately, we cannot offer refunds for lost swimming time.

What is the child admission policy? Children must be supervised at all times by a responsible adult (16+) in and around the pool area. All children under the age of 8 years must be accompanied into the pool by a responsible adult (16+). The responsible adult MUST enter the water with the child or children, and maintain a close watch over them at all times. Any children who are weak or non swimmers should wear suitable recommended buoyancy aids, stay in close contact with the supervising adult and remain in the shallow end. Parents are requested to ensure that their children wear aqua nappies where appropriate. These are available to purchase from the pool office.

Suitable and recognised buoyancy aids are Inflatable/Disc Armbands or Life Jackets (noodles, kickboards and floats are teaching aids and should not be used as a recognised buoyancy aid). Armbands are available to purchase form the pool office.

Admission Age Rules

Under 4 years: 1 to 1 with adult, however if children wear armbands the ratio moves to 2 to 1.

4 to 7 years: 2 to 1 with adult, however if children wear armbands the ratio moves to 3 to 1.

8 years +: unsupervised.

Who owns and runs the pool? Hathersage Swimming Pool is owned by King George’s Field Trust and managed by Hathersage Parish Council. We would like to acknowledge the valuable financial and technical support we receive from Derbyshire Dales District Council and Sport England.
