Hathersage Swimming Pool has once again joined into take on the Swimathon challenge, its an annual fundraising event that helps encourage local swimmers to sign up and raise money for Marie Curie.
In 2014 all our registered swimmers raised over £11,000, achieving a place in the top 10 of over 600 pools in the country for money raised. This year we are determined to raise even more money and remain in the top ten.
Held over the weekend of 17 – 19 April, Swimathon 2015 is expecting thousands to take on the challenge and go that extra length to help support Marie Curie provide care for terminal illnesses across the UK, with hours of health care and professionals to support themselves and their families through those tough times.
To help promote Swimathon 2015, Olympic gold medallist and Swimathon president Duncan Goodhew visited the pool on Thursday 19th March for a promotion day to increase awareness of the Swimathon fundraising weekend at Hathersage. Duncan arrived at the pool at 10am and spent the whole day chatting to local swimmers, holding a Q & A with students from Hope Valley Pathways (a post 16 school group from Hope Valley College) and the host of Hope Valley Radio Show as well as numerous local newspapers. He also ran a masters swimming session with 4 lucky Swimathon entrants, passing on his knowledge for when they take on their sponsored swim in April. Everyone involved had a great day and it was a privilege to have Duncan visit our pool.
