Hathersage Pool’s Biggest Swimathon Yet
Hathersage Swimming Pool was buzzing with energy, determination, and community spirit last weekend as more than 90 swimmers took on this year’s Swimathon challenge. From first‑timers dipping their toes into a 500m swim, to seasoned endurance athletes tackling the extraordinary Triple 5km Challenge—5km a day for three consecutive days.
And what a cause it was. Every metre swum helped raise vital funds for Swimathon’s charity partners (Cancer Research UK), supporting life‑changing work in communities across the UK. Whether swimmers were honouring loved ones, celebrating personal milestones, or simply pushing themselves to try something new, the motivation in the water was unmistakable.
A Weekend of Determination and Community Spirit.
Across the three days, the pool saw:
• Over 90 participants taking part
• Distances ranging from 500m to 15km
• Families swimming side‑by‑side
• Personal bests smashed
The Triple 5km swimmers deserve a special mention. Completing 15km in 72 hours is no small feat, and watching them return each day—tired but determined—was nothing short of inspiring.
Why It Matters
Swimathon’s charity partners work tirelessly to improve access to swimming, support those living with cancer, and promote healthier, more active lives. Thanks to the generosity of our swimmers and their supporters, this year’s event will make a real difference to people who need it most.
A Huge Thank You
To everyone who swam, donated, volunteered, cheered from the sidelines, or helped keep the pool running smoothly—thank you. Events like this showcase the very best of Hathersage: community, resilience, and a shared love of the water.
We’re already looking forward to next year’s Swimathon. If this weekend proved anything, it’s that our village has a remarkable ability to rise to a challenge and make waves that reach far beyond the pool.
